In a webinar on “Maintaining a Healthy Relationship System while Delivering Results,” hosts Sindiswa Calana and Cecil Murray shared four trends they have observed in workplaces, and the challenges these present to leaders.
Challenge 1 of 4 – HYBRID WORKING
Where full-time, on-site working was previously the norm, workplace patterns were dramatically disrupted in 2020. Since then, workplaces have adopted a range of options, including fully remote, hybrid arrangements, and full back-to-office.
In our work with clients in all three scenarios, we see organisations, teams and individuals struggling to find their rhythms, their rituals and their sense of cohesion and connection. The disruption has shifted the energy, and performance has been negatively affected.
We have heard people making statements like:
- I really miss the regular team socials we used to have.
- I feel isolated and uncertain of my place in the team.
- Is it only me, or have we drifted apart a bit?
- I was appointed 2 years ago and still haven’t met a single team member in person. It feels weird.
- Our meetings feel transactional and only about work.
